Rumor: iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro Set to Receive Substantial Battery Upgrades

iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro Set to Receive Substantial Battery Upgrades

According to a recent report, the upcoming iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro models are rumored to receive a significant boost in battery size. While the standard iPhone 15 is expected to see the most notable change, the improvements in the iPhone 15 Pro lineup should not be overlooked, especially considering the speculation surrounding the use of new chip technology in the iPhone 15 Pro.

Initial reports of these battery upgrades emerged on Weibo and were later picked up by ITHome. Citing a source from Foxconn, the rumor reveals the alleged battery capacities for the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro models as follows:

  • iPhone 15: 3877mAh (18% increase)
  • iPhone 15 Plus: 4912mAh (13.6% increase)
  • iPhone 15 Pro: 3650mAh (14.1% increase)
  • iPhone 15 Pro Max: 4852mAh (10.9% increase)

These numbers represent significant enhancements in battery capacities for the iPhone 15 series. However, it's important to remember that the battery life of an iPhone is influenced by two main factors: the battery's size and the efficiency of the processor it works in tandem with.

This year, it is anticipated that the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus will be powered by the A16 Bionic processor, manufactured using the 5nm process. On the other hand, the iPhone 15 Pro models are expected to feature a new A17 Bionic chip built with a 3nm fabrication process. The "nanometer" measurement in chip fabrication refers to the distance between transistors, with smaller distances resulting in improved performance and efficiency.

Apple has two possible approaches to manage this increase in battery size and efficiency. The company could prioritize battery life improvements, opting for more modest performance gains. Alternatively, Apple could maintain similar battery life and efficiency levels while significantly enhancing performance capabilities.

In my opinion, I believe Apple should focus on maximizing battery life with the iPhone 15 Pro this year. Personally, I have been somewhat disappointed with the battery life of my current iPhone 14 Pro Max, although I have always been satisfied with its performance.

What are your thoughts? Do you think Apple should leverage the additional battery capacity to offset more powerful performance, or should their main focus be on utilizing the extra capacity for even more impressive performance capabilities?
