Apple to Discontinue "My Photo Stream" Album: Here's How to Safeguard Your Photos
Apple to Discontinue My Photo Stream |
Apple Inc. (AAPL) recently made an announcement that it will permanently discontinue the "My Photo Stream" album starting this month. This feature, which automatically stores photos taken within the past 30 days, will no longer be available to users.
According to Apple's website, new photo uploads to My Photo Stream will cease on June 26, 2023. Any photos uploaded to the service prior to that date will remain in iCloud for 30 days from the upload date and will be accessible on devices where "My Photo Stream" is enabled. By July 26, 2023, all photos in "My Photo Stream" will be removed, and the service will be shut down.
To ensure the safety of your photos, here are steps you can take:
1. Save Photos to Your Device or iCloud
Access your "My Photo Stream" album in your camera roll and save your pictures to your device or iCloud. Since photos stored in "My Photo Stream" are already on at least one of your devices, you won't experience any loss of pictures during this transition if you have a device containing the original photos.
2. Add Missing Photos to Your Library
If a particular photo is not currently in your library on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac, save it to the library on that specific device.
3. Utilize Third-Party Backup Options
Consider backing up your photos using the Amazon Photos app or your Google account. These platforms offer reliable storage solutions to safeguard your precious memories.
4. Opt for iCloud
If you are already using iCloud, no further action is necessary. Apple provides various storage options for iCloud, including 50 gigabytes for 99 cents, 200 gigabytes for $2.99, and two terabytes for $9.99.
By bidding farewell to "My Photo Stream," Apple highlights iCloud as its recommended solution for securely storing and consolidating all your photos and videos across multiple devices. With iCloud, you can ensure your photos are safely backed up and easily accessible whenever you need them.
Remember to follow the steps mentioned above to safeguard your photos before the "My Photo Stream" service is discontinued.
